THREE WITCHES

1–1

Three Witches :

Fair is foul, and foul is fair:

Hover through the fog and filthy air.

Lady Macbeth

1–5

Lady Macbeth :

Yet do I fear thy nature;
It is too full o’ the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way:
它充滿了太多人情的乳臭,使你不敢採取最近的捷徑;
thou wouldst be great;
Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it:
你不是沒有野心,而是缺少達致野心的奸惡;
what thou wouldst highly, that wouldst thou holily;
你好高騖遠,卻又想保持冰清玉潔;
wouldst not play false, and yet wouldst wrongly win:
你不願刁猾狡詐,卻又想予奪生殺;
thou’ldst have, great Glamis, that which cries
‘Thus thou must do, if thou have it;
And that which rather thou dost fear to do than wishest should be undone.’
Lady Macbeth

1–5

Lady Macbeth :

Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts,
unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty !
抹除我的性別,用最凶惡的殘暴從頭到腳貫注我全身;
Make thick my blood; stop up the access and passage to remorse,
that no compunctious visitings of nature shake my fell purpose, nor keep peace between the effect and it !
Come to my woman’s breasts, and take my milk for gall, you murdering ministers,
wherever in your sightless substances you wait on nature’s mischief !
Come, thick night,
and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell,
that my keen knife see not the wound it makes,
nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark,
to cry ‘Hold, hold !’

MACBETH

1–7

Macbeth :

If it were done when ’tis done, then ‘twere well it were done quickly:
如果事情完成了以後就是完結,那麽還是快一點完成的好;
if the assassination could trammel up the consequence, and catch with his surcease success;
如果暗殺可以扼絕後患,追趕上成功;
that but this blow might be the be-all and the end-all here,
but here, upon this bank and shoal of time,
we’ld jump the life to come.
在這人世上,僅僅在這人世上,在時間這大海的淺灘上;
LADY MACBETH

1–7

Lady Macbeth :

When you durst do it, then you were a man;
當你敢於行動,你才是個男人;
And, to be more than what you were,
you would be so much more the man.
Nor time nor place did then adhere, and yet you would make both:
無論時間和地點都不曾給你機會的時候,你決心要實現自我;
They have made themselves,
and that their fitness now does unmake you.
I have given suck, and know how tender ’tis to love the babe that milks me:
我曾經哺乳過嬰孩,知道一個母親是怎樣憐愛那吮吸她乳汁的子女;
I would, while it was smiling in my face,
have pluck’d my nipple from his boneless gums,
and dash’d the brains out,
had I so sworn as you have done to this.
MACBETH

1–7

Macbeth :

Bring forth men-children only;
For thy undaunted mettle should compose nothing but males.
Away, and mock the time with fairest show:
False face must hide what the false heart doth know.
MACBETH

2–2

Macbeth :

But wherefore could not I pronounce ‘Amen’?
I had most need of blessing, and ‘Amen’Stuck in my throat.
Methought I heard a voice cry
‘Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep’,
the innocent sleep,
sleep that knits up the ravell’d sleeve of care,
the death of each day’s life, sore labour’s bath,
balm of hurt minds, great nature’s second course,
chief nourisher in life’s feast,
Still it cried ‘Sleep no more!’ to all the house:
‘Glamis hath murder’d sleep, and therefore Cawdor
Shall sleep no more; Macbeth shall sleep no more.’
Lady Macbeth

2–2

Lady Macbeth :

What hands are here? Ha! They pluck out mine eyes.
Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand?
No, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas in incarnadine, making the green one red.

2–3

Macbeth :

Who can be wise, amazed, temperate and furious,
loyal and neutral, in a moment?
No man :
The expedition of my violent love outrun the pauser, reason.

2–3

道納本

Donalbain :

where we are,
there’s daggers in men’s smiles:
the near in blood, the nearer bloody.

我們所在之處,人們的笑臉裡都暗藏著尖刃;

Malcolm :

This murderous shaft that’s shot hath not yet lighted,
`and our safest way is to avoid the aim.

Therefore, to horse;
and let us not be dainty of leave-taking, but shift away:

所以趕快上馬;

讓我們不要計較於告別的禮數,趁著有便就盡快溜出;

there’s warrant in that theft which steals itself,
when there’s no mercy left.

3–4

Macbeth :

It will have blood; they say, blood will have blood:

Stones have been known to move and trees to speak;

據說碑石曾經轉動,樹木曾經發言;

Augurs and understood relations have by magot-pies and choughs and rooks brought forth the secret’st man of blood.

LADY MACDUFF

4–2

Lady Macduff :

I have done no harm.

But I remember now I am in this earthly world;
where to do harm is often laudable,
to do good sometime accounted dangerous folly:

行兇作惡招致恭維讚美,積德行善有時會被認為是危險的傻瓜;

why then, alas,
do I put up that womanly defence,
to say I have done no harm?

5–5

Macbeth :

To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
creeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded time,

一天接著一天地躡步前進直到時間紀錄的最後一個音節;

And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death.
Out, out, brief candle!

Life’s but a walking shadow,
a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more:

比手畫腳的拙劣演員在舞台上登場片刻,就無聲無息地悄然退下;

It is a tale told by an idiot,
full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing.
